A creamy, cheesy potato bake scaled down to fit the 1.5L slow cookers perfectly. A great side dish to your next BBQ or main meal :)
3 hrs 30 mins
3 hrs 45 mins
Approx 7 small washed baby potatoes (or as many you can fit in your 1.5L bowl)
1 onion diced
100g diced bacon
1T minced garlic
250ml cooking cream
20g dry french onion soup
1 cup grated tasty cheese
1Rinse washed potatoes, leave skin on, slice
2Layer potato slices, onion and bacon until you have filled cooker almost to the top
3Combine cream, garlic and dry soup mix in a jug and pour over
4Cook on HIGH for approx 3hrs 15mins or until potatoes are tender to fork
5Top with grated cheese and at this stage include tea towel under lid as per tea towel trick
6Cook for an additional 15mins or until cheese nicely melted
7Serve and enjoy

Made this as a side tonight, was really yummy. I pretty much followed the original recipe, except didn’t add bacon and was still nice. I didn’t have cooking cream so I used pouring cream mixed with 1 heaped tsp cornflour as per previous comments. Also mine was cooked after 2 hours 15 mins on high. Maybe my Adesso 1.5 lt cooker might run hotter, not sure cos first time I’ve used it! 😀

Made a couple of days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Instead of French onion soup I used vegetable stock powder and placed a couple of layers of cheese in the middle. At the 3 hr 15 min mark I put grated cheese on top with a tea towel and had a failure! lol, when I checked it at 3 1/2 hrs I had more cheese on the tea towel than on the spuds! I just removed the tea towel all together. The 3 1/2 hours on low wasn’t enough, did another hour on high and the potato was still a touch firm. When scooped out the leftovers I found it had caught just a little bit on the bottom. Oh and I didn’t waste the cheese on the tea towel, it was a nice little taste of what was to come! Will definitely try again.

If using a cream other than cooking cream I recommend mixing 1-2 tsp corn flour to it first to lessen chance of splitting (more info)

Streaky bacon would work too and have a lovely flavour 🙂 Just diced it up first

I’m in the US. Can our form of bacon be used in this dish? (I believe it’s called streaky bacon there) If so, do fry it before putting it in the crockpot/slow cooker?

Loved this. I did put cheese inbetween the layers and no bacon as I dnt eat it. Also didn’t do the tea towel trick as I get a bit nervous with that but still turned out so tasty for our bbq got lots of compliments. Will be making this more and more

Yummo. I did 1/2 potatoe 1/2 sweet potatoe also adding cheese between the layers. Very saucy. I found it burnt a little on the bottom, which didn’t ruin the flavour, I am still getting used to the baby so probably should have turned it to low a bit sooner

Made this tonight as a side with sausages. I followed the recipe to the letter and it was absolutely delicious! It was actually my first time using my 1.5L and my first time making a potato bake so I was very pleased. Easy to put together and the result was perfect potatoes, perfect creaminess and cheesiness. Perfect size for the 4 of us as well. Definitely a new favourite

I love potato bake and find it hard to find a recipe I really like and this one is delicious.
I cooked it in my 1.5lt SC on HIGH and it cooked in 2 hours which was when I added the cheese on top and after it melted I put it under my grill for a few minutes to brown up.
I do agree with a comment made above that next time I would add some cheese in the layers too and the only other thing I would change is I would peel the potato’s but that’s just personal taste thing for me. Absolutely delicious!

Great recipe! I’ve done a couple of variations now. First time I followed recipe, was a bit salty with the French onion soup. Second time I used half the amount of soup mix, and added sweet potato every third layer. Third time used vegeta as I didn’t have soup mix and didn’t use onion. All were fantastic!

Could I put this in a fish then into slow cooker?

Not sure what you mean Ruth as your comment makes no sense??
This recipe isn’t a low carb recipe because obviously potatoes are high carb.

Quite alot I expect because potatoes are heavy carbs.

I tried this tonight. I had to use coconut cream because my daughter cannot have cream. I didn’t use the onion or bacon because we were trying for a quick easy dinner and this was perfect, it was delicious and even with the coconut cream it was great! Would make again.

I cooked this on Easter Sunday n it was really yummy but I used my 5 litre sc so next time I’ll be adding another 300mls of cooking cream, I should’ve realised as this recipe is made in the 1.5 litre sc, will definitely be making again 😊👍👌

I’d suggest calculating it with whatever carb counter you usually use 🙂
