A lovely delicate Chinese flavoured dish that will have your friend or family licking their plates clean !

1kg diced beef

1 cup sliced spring onions

150ml sweet soy sauce

1tbs honey

1tbs sugar (I used coconut sugar)

3tsp minced garlic

3tsp minced ginger

2 cups beef stock

1 cup water

1tsp sambal olek chilli paste

1tsp nutmeg

1tsp Chinese five spice

2tbs vinegar

—Cornflour Slurry

2tbs cornflour in 6tbs water,

1tsp sambal olek,

1tbs sweet soy


1Coat beef in cornflour then slightly brown in a fry pan.

2Add all ingredients into your slow cooker (apart from the cornflour slurry mixture) and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

3About 30 mins from serving add the cornflour slurry mixture to thicken the sauce.

4Serve with rice and steamed greens

This was yum & it smelled amazing too!
We skipped the two cups of water entirely , & it was still lots of liquid in the end dish
Also added some frozen broccoli in last hour & reserved half the green onions for last 30 mins too & we served on rice with veg
For us personally I’d halve the 2 spices next time just to lessen the strength in the final dish, but would definitely do it again!
