Ingredients

  • I kg of chicken thighs
  • 1 onion
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • ½ cup of honey
  • ½ cup of brown sugar, I used a little bit more to get rid of the salty taste
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup of balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup of sweet chilli sauce
  • ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of chilli pepper or to taste
  • 1/2 cup of water added with one teaspoon of chicken stock powder
  • Flour to dust the chicken in

Instructions

  • Slice the chicken thighs to bite size.
  • Flour the chicken and then fry it, not so they cook through
  • Slice the onion very thin. Fry the onion and garlic in the oil that has been left over from frying the chicken. The flour that is left in the pan, helps the sauce to thicken up
  • Place the onion/garlic in the SC
  • Add the chicken
  • In a separate bowl add the honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, sweet chilli sauce, the ginger and the chilli powder
  • Mix it all together
  • Add the sauce to the chicken
  • In the water, ad a teaspoon of the stock powder
  • Stir it and then add it over the chicken
  • Cook for about 5 hours on low
  • Served on rice and vegetables

  1. This was quite sweet, but very nice. Would reduce sugar by half next time. Normally we are not keen on chicken thighs, but they turned out wonderful in this dish. Happy to make this again. A big 10/10 from the whole family. Thanks for a great recipe.

  2. What an outstanding recipe, thank you Doris. This has such amazing flavour. I used 1.3kg of thighs, baked off a bit on the honey and sugar, added 5 chilli’s, used up some shortcut bacon and two mushrooms, and served with rice and spring onions and sesame seeds. Four leftover meals to die for

  3. Absolutely delicious. I did alter it a bit, using leftover vegetable stock with a chicken cube mixed in, instead of the water. I also mixed all liquid ingredients together and poured that over the chicken.

  4. Did this tonight was real yummy. Didn’t add onion or the chili pepper as my son hates onion and hubby is not into chili haha ( but I did use sweet chilli sauce) Was a winner . I used Chicken Breast and it also turned out a lighter colour than in this pic. Served with steamed veg and spaghetti.

  5. Soooooo good! Really flavoursome, this dish is a winner. I only cooked for 4 hours as using chicken breasts and added some red capsicum and Asian greens for last half hour.
