Braised Steak and Gherkins
A steak and gherkin casserole from my childhood converted to the slow cooker
Ingredients
- 1 Onion, sliced
- 8 pieces Silverside Eye Steak, 1.5cm thick (or any casserole steak)
- 1/4 cup sliced Gherkins
- 1 tblspn Tomato sauce
- 1 tblspn Brown Sugar
- 1 tblspn Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tblspn Vinegar
- 3/4 cup Water
- 2 tblspns Cornflour
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place steak, onion and gherkins in slow cooker bowl
- Combine sauces and cornflour together in a jug, pour over steak
- Rinse jug with water and pour into slow cooker bowl
- Cook for 8-9hrs on low (Crockpot 3.5L sc) or 5-6hrs on low (Contempo 5.5L sc)

I used rump because that is what I had. Using my 7L sc decreased cooking time to 3 1/2 hours low. Went down well with kids. For my personal taste I didn’t add salt and would decrease the Worcestershire sauce next time. Overall we were very happy with this recipe
