  1. This is the best!!! Will be cooking my spaghetti bolognaise like this all the time now, soooooooo tasty 😛
    Thanku Paulene 🙂

  2. So, just double checking quantities… I can only find tomato soup in cans that are like 420g. Do I just use half the can ?

  3. I made this for dinner tonight and I followed the recipe but it hasn’t turned out as well as I hope it would. The flavours were great but I’m wondering if the mince I used contributed to the texture. I used heart smart beef mince. Should I have used regular beef mince??

  4. Going to give this a try this week looks great will hide mushrooms i am master of that kids not a fan when they know they go in thanks looks great cant wait

  5. Oh my goodness!! This is the most delicious spaghetti bolgnaise I’ve ever eaten! Beautiful and rich sauce and so simple to make. My husband questioned why I would cook it in the slow cooker as “it doesn’t take long in the frypan” but he definitely approved as he went back for seconds. It also goes further than just the frypan with a jar of sauce – we had half tonight and the other half I’ve frozen. I will never use another spag bolg recipient again.

  6. I made this recipe exactly how it was written, but left the bbq sauce out as I’m not a fan, but omg this was one of the best spag bol I’ve ever made! Didn’t brown the mince, just broke it up with my fingers and gave it all a good stir, and about 5 and a half hours later it was all broken up throughout the sauce… best way to do spaghetti!

  7. QUESTION: Can you add raw pasta in to cook in the sauce later in the cooking process, or is there not really enough liquid for it to cook well? I love 1 pot meals, and would save cooking the pasta separately.

    We loved this bolognaise, so much so that I’ve been asked to give part of the leftovers to another family member so they can taste how good it is. For years we’ve made the same old sauce but not anymore! Thanks.

  9. I made that spaghetti last night and it was the best I’ve ever had. Thanks for sharing. As everyone was eating at different times I cooked the meat and sauce during the day in the slow cooker then just before dinner time, boiled up some pasta and then stirred it through the sauce. Turned it off and everyone served themselves as they got home. I did brown the meat first so I could drain off the fat and I also browned the onion and garlic too. I added a dash of chilli sauce. This will be the only way I will ever cook spaghetti from now on.

    QUESTION: I haven’t tried this yet and am concerned the mince will cook in clumps. From the reviews and comments here, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Has anyone had an issue with this?

  11. This was really good! I prepared the freezer dump bags and wondered how it would go as I do have a favorite stove top spaghetti sauce but this was great and super easy. Loved it

  12. Super-dooper yum! I used a pasta sauce with chilli & capsicum in its and then made it into a lasagne….. ‘best dinner ever’ as declared by my kids! This will be a weekly staple – super easy too! Thanks Pauline!

  13. Will never cook spaghetti bol any other way again! Rich in flavour, added the cooked spaghetti for 10 minutes into the slow cooker at the end. Thankyou for the recipe. Also added grated zucchini that I had leftover in the fridge.

  14. Thank you so much for this awesome recipe. I will try it out this weekend for sure, thank you Paulene .?

  15. I haven’t tried this yet but would like to add red wine, should I substitute some of the tomato soup for the wine? And how much?

  16. Thanks for this recipe. After seeing this post this morning, I made it for dinner.
    I didn’t have a can of tomato soup so I used a can of crushed and sieved tomatoes.
    It is so TASTY!! And unbelievably easy. I’m never making bologniase on the stove again.

    Plus it was so delicious that my super fussy partner didn’t notice that I made his pasta bake with lentil pasta.

  17. This is a great recipe. My husband is not the biggest fan of spaghetti bolognaise but really enjoyed this. Such great flavours. This is the recipe I will continue to use after 30 years of cooking. Thanks so much..

  18. Followed the recipe but tweaked it by adding fresh ginger(I love ginger)and fresh tomatoes that I had and needed to use up. Snuck in some veggies as well and tomato paste. Turned out beautifully.. ??

  19. Can I cook my pasta in with the sauce or will it turn out yuck? Or can I say pre cook the pasta put it in the fridge and add it like 1/2 hour before serving? Thanks x

  20. trying this tonight for the first time in the slow cooker for tomorrow nights dinner left out the mushroom and added grated zucchini instead . can’t wait to try it.

  21. We had this for dinner last night, seriously the best spaghetti ever!! This will now be a regular meal in our house….

  22. Absolutely amazing!
    I added a zucchini as I had one in the fridge starting to go.
    So good!
    Did not add W. Sauce, as I am allergic to chilli, paprika and capsicum, but it was so good without it!
    Thank you Paulene!

  23. 2 questions…

    1. Can you double the recipe?

    2. My husband likes really meaty bolognese. Could I use the same recipe with more mince, eg 700 g?

    Thanks!

  24. This was a great Bolognese that I added with Lasagne Sheets topped with Bechemal made in the Thermomix. Easiest Lasagne I’ve ever made. Yum.

  25. Hey!
    We are a fryer first. We hate oily tastes and feels can I brown first? We dont cook cook first just enough to colour change and we paper towel.

  26. One work for this recipe… AMAZING!

    The only thing I’d add to this is grated zucchini because I have a very fussy 2 year old that hates anything with vegetables. So we have to hide as much veg as possible in anything we cook. This recipe doesn’t need it though, it is delicious without it ?

  27. Jackie Raavel

    I made this exactly as per the recipe, just perfect, thanks Pauline. My husband loves spag bol but I have never managed to cook it exactly to his taste. This recipe nailed it.

  28. OMG…Spaghetti sauce in slow cooker, i doubled as used for lasagne, BEST LASAGNE EVER. My family can’t wait for me to make again, will be doing for spag bog and lasagne ??

  29. Renee O’Neill

    This is mine and my family’s absolute favourite bolognaise recipe. The only changes I make is I also add a finely grated zucchini and I use a 420g can of Big Red tomato soup. This is the only way I make bolognaise now ?. I also make this sauce to use in my homemade lasagne. Thanks Paulene for such a delicious recipe ??X

  30. Really delicious and easy recipe to follow and this is the second time i have made it and my favorite and go spag bol sauce and will make this again

  31. Regular in our home! We love this. I alter and only put 2 tbl spoon bbq sauce for our tastes and the whole can of tomato soup. This is so when i add pasta to the slow cooker before serving the extra liquid is soaked up

  32. This is fantastic. Compared to my stove top version it is heaps and heaps more flavourful. The tomato soup is the key. I tweek this with cauliflower and a small amount of zucchinni cut very small. May as well make a full meal of it! (too much zuchinni may water down sauce..so not too much) Its so quick and easy that you dont have to brown anything..just toss it all in. Love it!

  33. So great. Modified recipe slightly added 1 can corn kernels drained, 1 pk taco seasoning mix, 1 red capsicum diced. Browned ingredients slightly first.
    Excellent ?

  34. Made this as per recipe but added a sachet of tomato paste. Some chilli would be nice to spice it up but that depends on your taste.
    Great recipe. Leftovers in freezer for later ?

  35. I’ll never make spaghetti bolognese any other way .. tried it for the first time on Friday, brilliant! Family raved .. I’m making sure I’ll always have the makings for this sauce in my pantry. Perfect!

  36. The only way I make my bolognaise sauce now. As I live alone I freeze it in one serve sizes, that way if there are more people to feed I just defrost the required number of serves. One serve is defrosting right now.

  37. I utterly adore this recipe .. I’m nearly 50, and have been making my own Bolognese sauce since cooking for myself since I was 18. Don’t think I ever made my sauce the same. Always varied it. This is the only Bolognese I’ve made that I’ve stuck to .. other than using tinned tomatoes if I’m out of pasta sauce ?

  38. BEST SKETTI RECIPE EVER!!! I haven’t had bolognaise for such a long time because I couldn’t find a sauce I liked, but this was sooooo good (those were the exact words my 16 year old son said). I didn’t add mushrooms but used a packet of 800g lean beef mince from Coles, jar of Leggo’s bolognaise sauce with bacon, and all other ingredients the same as listed above. It was so YUM!!!!

  39. Oh dear. I was a little disappointed with that reverie. I used dolmio’s bolenaise sauce. Hmm. I would stick to a good passata next time. Also maybe too much bbq sauce ( sweetness) for me. A shame really.

  40. The best spaghetti sauce ever. Have consistently used this recipe since the first time I made it. Won’t cook a spaghetti sauce any other way now

  41. How do you add spaghetti at the end without it clumping together? I imagine other pastas are easy to stir through but I’d like to use spaghetti.

  42. Best EVER Spag Bol – I always thought mine was great UNTIL I used this recipe! Only recipe I use for Spaghetti now and follow it to the letter ….
    DELICIOUS

  43. After reading the other reviews and having a picky family of 9 to feed, I doubled the recipe. HOWEVER did NOT double the BBQ sauce.
    I also didn’t have any Italian herbs so I used 5 drops of doTerra oregnao oil.
    After 5.5hrs I sampled it and it was still quite sweet. ?
    I added a good dash of salt and pepper – and we had a winner!
    Family licked the plates and we’re looking around for more!
    Sensational!?

  44. I know I’ve already written a review, but just had to add….. I made a batch of this and froze it.
    It defrosted beautifully and still tastes AMAZING.
    I’ve been searching for the perfect recipe, and this is it.
    My new, and only, GO-TO recipe.
    And so easy!!!?

  45. This would be my favourite spaghetti bolognese recipe. I followed the recipe and it was delicious. Thank you ?

  46. I’ve posted a question about adding pasta previously but I’d like to post a review.

    I enjoyed this sauce but my 18year son didn’t. He prefers my usual recipe which I actually got from a chef so I don’t blame him. However, I really enjoyed making this sauce, adding all the healthy ingredients and letting it cook for hours. I haven’t given up. I think we are used to more of a tang to our sauce and we usually add a bit of balsamic vinegar and vegeta but I think what this one needed , for us, was a good teaspoon of vegemite. I’m going to give it another go without so much BBQ sauce and with that teaspoon of vegemite. I just love the way you can throw everything in. It’s super easy.

  47. Unfortunately, this recipe as is was far too sweet for me. I couldn’t eat it as it was too sweet. I have been eating very low sugar lately, and I even used a jarred sauce with low sugars and reduced sugar BBQ sauce. I think it might be the tomato soup that made it too sweet. It tasted really sugary and that overwhelmed the other flavours. I’ll try this next time but without the tomato soup and jarred sauce. Instead I’ll use tomato paste, water, spices and a tin of diced tomatoes.

  48. I used 24 store bought pork & beef meatballs.
    * 1tbsp minced garlic in place of the garlic cloves
    * no onion
    * cooked on low – 4.5hr

    ?Enjoyed by all the family?

  49. Absolutely delish, probably the best bolognese sauce I’ve had. Next time I’d love to try with meatballs. I used Dolmios Ragu Bolognese sauce.

  50. Thumbs up from us ?. I used 500g pk of bolognaise mince ( combined pork and beef) added 4 diced slices of short cut bacon. Omitted the mushrooms as i can’t stand them and didn’t add carrot as I didn’t have one. Also didn’t have bbq sauce so substituted bbq and worcestershire with 2 table spoons of HP sauce. Browned off mince, onion, bacon and garlic first. Turned out really nice.

  51. SUPER AMAZING.
    There’s not enough stars for this recipe!
    All the reviews are spot on.
    I’ll never make spaghetti bolognese any other way.
    Hubby kept saying, YUM YUM so many times.
    Next time I’ll double it for lasagne too ?

  52. Best bolognaise sauce I’ve ever made! And I thought mine was the best until I cooked this!

    I swapped the beef mince for pork & veal mince as that’s what I usually use in my bolognaise sauce

  53. Chris Cherry ? everyone calls me Nanna which I love ??..l

    Made your amazing spaghetti sauce on Saturday, added some bacon, and celery (didn’t want to waste) it’s the best I have had, hubby loved it and he is pretty fussy. Thankyou Paulene for another beautiful recipe ?

  54. I didn’t have tomato sauce so used Passata instead. I also left out mushrooms as I didn’t have any. It turned out amazing

  55. Just putting on another bulk batch of this awesome bolognaise sauce. We will get at least 8-10 dinners out of it. I make it often as it is great for freezing in small family serve sizes for quick easy dinners. We dont eat mushrooms but I did put in some bacon. 🙂

  56. Well firstly I have no doubt this recipe is enjoyable for others 🙂

    I gave it a go.. I followed the recipe exactly aside from the bbq sauce, I added extra Worcestershire sauce instead..

    Unfortunately this wasnt that great for me, I found it watery and bland..not terrible just not what I was expecting.. I don’t know what I could of done differently but that’s okay because I tried it and it just wasn’t for me,

    I think Bolognese is just one il stick to doing on the stove lol

    Glad I gave it a go none the less ?

  57. Wonderful recipe, I was skeptical because our usual way of making Bolognese was near perfect but this was also a huge hit! I made followed the recipe and used all the ingredients listed but also changed/added:
    2x 380g jar sauces (instead of the 500g one)
    1x 300g can tomato soup (instead of 200g)
    1x grated zucchini
    1x small red capsicum diced
    2 teaspoons crushed chilli (we like it with a kick)

  58. Really delicious bolognaise sauce! Made it for dinner the other night, next night it turned into lasagna, then into the freezer with the rest to use another time. Thank you Pauline for this delicious, easy to make sauce! ?

    Made this yesterday so I would have something warm and hearty to take for work lunches. Absolutely fantastic. Love the flavours. I left mushrooms out of mine because I don’t like them. Dished a container up for my neighbor and sent her the link, she said she loves it and it’s going in her recipe folder.

    Made this tonight. Followed the recipe exactly Amazing loved it Will be on our meals list now. Many thanks Pauline.

    This is the BEST Spaghetti Bolognaise ever and so easy to make, this will definitely be a weekly Dinner in our house.

  62. 5 stars
    This is a regular favourite recipe in our home. The only thing I add extra is some grated carrots to get those hidden veggies in.
    This is a winner with hubby and gives it a 10/10.
    Freezers well too
    Thanks ? Jenny P

    This is so good. I used 1kg of fine ground beef mince. I added a cornflour slurry to thicken the sauce slightly just before serving on a bed of spaghetti pasta! Master 14.who is a bolognaise lover was very happy – loved it and went back for seconds – winning!

  64. 5 stars
    my family absolutely loved this recipe! my partner said it’s not so sweet like normal jar sauces. perfect balance of flavours.
    needed a bit of salt an chilli for my tastes but my 1yo and my hubby loved it!

  65. 5 stars
    Love the simplicity of this recipe ? modified this time as follows:
    * 1.5kg beef mince
    * 2x 400g jar pasta sauce
    * 420g can tomato soup
    * 3tbsp worstechire sauce
    * extra mushrooms
    * 1.5tsp Italian herbs
    Served with fettuccine pasta.
    Master 15 rated a 6 out of 5!

    Made this for dinner the other night. It was just as beautiful like other recipes in the site. I left out mushroom coz hubby has got allergies on it but it still taste lovely. My first time to cook bolognese sauce this way, but definitely wont be the last. Thank you Ms. Pauline for the recipe.

  67. 5 stars
    Always a winner – simple & easy. This time I added 1 can of corn kernels, ? I didn’t have any carrots, afded extra mushrooms probably about 14 in total an extra tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 700g pasta sauce and 1.5kg beef mince. cooked on low for 6hr, then high for 30 minutes before serving over cooked spaghetti ?!

    I’m going to be honest here….for quite some time now I have viewed your sc spaghetti bolgnaise. I don’t know why but I just always stuck with my tried and tested on the stove top basic pan made recipe. Then last week I thought fk it (sorry-bad week) I’ll give it a crack. Weeeellllll. Holy moly, wows, sheesh what an awesome recipe you have. Taste and texture to perfection. THANK YOU. It is now printed and is the first recipe page when I open my slow cook book. ?

  69. 5 stars
    I rarely write reviews but this is the bomb! I love this sauce, easy to do, can vary with zucchini, chilli, any damn thing you like really and always comes out superb. Will never cook it any other way now (why mess with perfection?) . 18yo and 21yo eyes always light up when I tell them I’m making a batch. I take to work when doing overnights, great comfort food and freezes well.

  70. Tried the spag bol sauce for the first time last night – it was so good! 10/10. So very easy and incredibly tasty. I left out the mushrooms though, and just used whatever jar of sauce I had in the cupboard; and thick tomato paste instead of the tomato soup (just to use it up really)! Cooked it all afternoon on low – smelled amazing.

  71. 5 stars
    Absolutely fantastic. Followed the recipe ingredients and also added a big zucchini, 2 little tins of capsicum and a tin of red kidney beans. Browned the mince at the start. 500g of gluten free spaghetti and 8 good sized portions. Will be making again.

  72. 5 stars
    I thought that I’d give this recipe a go and it did not disappoint! Such a lovely rich and savoury sauce which I think comes from the tomato soup and Worcestershire sauce (something I would never have thought to put in a Bolognese sauce). I doubled the quantity and my guests went home with leftovers and we have enough for ourselves too. We all thought that it was absolutely delicious.

  73. Was a bit sweet the first day but after a day in the fridge the flavour deepened , was really good. Will definitely make again (didnt use mushrooms) .

  74. 5 stars
    Tried this for the first time last week…..wow! So easy, just chucked it all in, I didn’t have mushrooms so added a can of chopped mushrooms in butter sauce, added a sacher of tomato paste also at the end a dash or two of chilli flakes……..hubby said it’s the best we’ve ever Hadzakis, lasted two meals too with only 400g mince ..

  75. 5 stars
    This recipe is delish!
    I used 2kg of beef mince, all the ingredients as per recipe. I added 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 can crushed tomatoes. I doubled the sauce quantities. cooked on low for 7hr. Served with fettuccine pasta and grated cheese. Voiila!

    NB I prepped & cooked this the night before and allowed to cool then put in fridge for reheating in microwave for the following evenings meal.
