Total Time 4 hours 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 Beef Sausages (I like Beef & Garlic flavour)
  • 2 Carrots
  • 1/4 of a Green Cabbage
  • 1 Brown Onion
  • 2 Apples (I have used Granny Smith and Pink Lady - both work fine)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • 1 packet French Onion soup mix

Instructions

  • 1. Brown sausages and set aside.
  • 2. Cut in half and thinly slice the onion; peel and slice apples and carrots; and thinly slice cabbage - place all this to the slow cooker.
  • 3. In a large bowl combine the BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, packet of French onion soup and 1 cup of hot water - stir to combine.
  • 4. Slice sausages if desired (I find it easy for the kids if sliced approx 5 pieces per sausage)
  • 5. Add sausages to slow cooker and pour over sauce/soup mix.
  • Cooked for 4 hours on High.
  • (5.5L Abode slow cooker)

Notes

  • Fab serve with Mash & Greens.
  • Can also add frozen peas and corn to sneak in a few extra vegies.

  1. WOW !!! Tastes great, going to make it again, and for the night, FRIDAY, when I have to eat by myself. (Due to everyone is at hockey)

Made this today and it was delicious. I added a beef stock cube to make it a bit more savoury. I’ve never had beef sausages before and they were great. Thank you!

  3. Big hit with our family.

My sister and her friend popped by for dinner too – we had plenty to feed them also. Her friend messaged me later on to ask for the recipe.

I made it 2 weeks ago and hubby has requested I make it again for dinner tonight…. Saucy sausages it is!

  4. OMG! You all need to try this if you haven’t yet!! Hubby said it’s better than sausage obsession ;). Served with potato bake. Honestly it is delicious!!! So good. Thanks for sharing such a delicious recipe!

  5. We absolutely loved this even my 18 month old loved it she licked her plate clean, also love the idea of cabbage in it any extra vegetables with a toddler who doesn’t like veggies is a bonus.

Seriously yummy. Thumbs up from the kids. Although I never had BBQ sauce so I used Sweet Chilli Sauce and instead of cabbage I used leek.

  7. Great recipe!
I increased the sausages to 14 easily and still had plenty of sauce.
I cooked them whole and raw (no browning) and cut them towards the end of cooking time in the pot with a plastic egg flip several at once by pushing down on them as I usually do 🙂
I would decrease the sauces to 1/2 cup each next time I cook it just to cut the sugar a bit but I’d definitely cook it again – YUM!!

  8. Has anyone else found this super sweet? I left out cabbage as my partner doesn’t like it, I’m not sure if that’s the problem but I found it way too sweet, had to add a lot of water and gravy to try to save it.

  9. What a flavoursome dish. Only had BBQ sausages. Only put half cup each of the sauce and added sweet chilli sauce, used only half the packet of french onion soup. Sauce was plenty and very nice flavour.

  10. Everyone really enjoyed this even got my girls to eat cabbage. I will reduce the sauce a bit also and add a bit extra water. Sweet chilli would also be awesome.

  11. So tasty!
I switched it up abit.. instead of a full cup i did..
    1/2 cup bbq sauce
    1/2 cup tomato sauce
    1/2 cup sweet chilli sauce

Plenty of sauce for 8 sausages and sooooo yummy!!

  12. I have made this numerous of times as master 4 loves it however he didn’t like it with the cabbage. So I put some mixed frozen veg in it

  13. Looks fantastic, i really want to cook this hower my son hates sausages. Could I take the meet out of the skin and make little balls, to look like meatball?

I have a heap of sausages in freezer, know my little fussy eater will only eat top quality cuts .
He loves the slow cooked chicken carbonara, and spag bowl.

    1. You could. Though you may need to add some breadcrumbs etc to bind them together well? Alternatively you could pre boil the sausages enough to be able to remove the skin. Then cut them into little pieces and he may not realise then it’s a sausage 😉

  14. Made for the first time tonight. Didn’t have any cabbage & only used one apple as it was all I had. I also added some frozen spinach & zucchini to sneak in some more vege. Super delicious. Fussy hubby approved. Will add to our regular dinner plans
