Serving: 4
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 6 hours
Total Time 6 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

Meat Sauce

  • 1 kg minced steak
  • 1 tbls oil plus spray olive oil
  • 2 x 425g cans tomatoes
  • 2 medium onions
  • 200g mushrooms
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 280g tomato paste
  • 2 teas oregano
  • 2 teas basil
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch pepper
  • 120g spinach
  • Mozerella and parmesan - however much you like of each!
  • Dry Lasagna sheets/srips

Microwave Béchamel Sauce

  • 600ml milk
  • 2 tbls butter
  • 2 tbls flour

Instructions

  • Meat Sauce
  • Heat oil in large fry pan, fry onion, garlic, minced steak, mushrooms, herbs, salt and pepper for 5 minutes to slightly brown and get big lumps out. Add tomatoes, spinach and tomato paste, stir to combine.
  • Microwave Bechamel Sauce
  • Melt butter for 30 seconds or so in microwave, stir flour in and cook for 1 minute so it resembles breadcrumbs. add milk, stir to combine. cook in 1 minute bursts until thick. (took me approx 3 minutes total)
  • Prepare Lasagna
  • Lightly spray slow cooker dish with oil. Pour meat, then a layer of bechamel into the dish. Arrange uncooked Lasagna strips over the bechamel. Cover liberally with meat sauce, bechamel and some mozzarella. Continue alternating layers of lasagna, meat and bechamel. Arrange mozzarella over bechamel and then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. cook for 2 hours on high then 1-1.5 hours on low.
  • Or 6-8 hours on low depending on what your slowcooker is like.
  • Cook with tea towel trick under the lid.

Dry lasagna sheets work the best for this recipe, I have tried it with fresh, and it didn’t turn out as well, so I always use the dry ones, I think it helps absorb the excess liquid and makes it turn out so good!! And they are cheaper so bonus 🙂

Hi! Dry herbs are what I use, but fresh would work too if that’s what you have?
I use the 280 g of tomato paste as that’s what my Mum’s original recipe uses, but if you want to use less that’s perfectly ok? It may not be strong enough in flavour though? It’s easily adaptable to whatever your personal preference is and can’t hurt to try.
I also need to get this recipe edited to include thatdry lasagna sheets to be used and a tea towel around lid is needed to prevent condensation

  3. sorry I don’t no what the Cook with tea towel trick under the lid. could someone explain please thanks

  4. Do you just put the tea towel over the cooker then put lid on top and at what point is it best to do this?

  5. Absolutely delicious recipe! I added 120 gm extra tomato paste, diced carrots and used 250 gm finely diced mushrooms. I also added an extra tablespoon of flour and extra milk, grated tasty cheese and cracked black pepper to the bechamel sauce. Cooked on high for 2 hrs then low for 2.5 hrs. The BEST lasagna ever!!

fantastic. Big hit in my family. When I use to make in the oven it was always watery. Not this one. People don’t believe me when I say I cook in slow cooker.

  7. I love lasagne made this way, I have used round wraps as well with a lasagne sheet in the middle of the two halves. (Cut the wrap in half like a semi circle and place the round edges against the bowl with a sheet of lasagne or another piece of wrap in the middle) perfect every time!

  8. We like a more traditional lasagne, so I leave out the Mushrooms and Spinach, but this is the only way I cook Lasagne now . My slow cooker is 6l, so it feeds a family of 5 with leftovers for lunch.

  9. If you like add ricotta into it. Just cut up the ricotta into pieces and sprinkle on each level of meat. You will thank me later

  10. This was a winner in our house the other day! Didn’t even make it onto next day as leftover! Had to add some grated cheese on bechamel sauce as it would not thicken and it came out beautifully. Will def be making this again and again!

  11. Had this for dinner last night with mash potato and broccoli it was Devine. Just had the left overs for lunch.

  12. This recipe is amazing! Made this on a cold Friday for my family. Everyone smashed it and said it was the best ever! I cooked mine for 6hrs on low and will never use my oven do to lasagna again 🙂

  13. Can someone please explain the tea towel trick to me and do you do it for the whole time it is cooking?

Absolutely wonderful. I will not use another recipe again. Used soya milk and had to increase the flour and butter but otherwise just perfect.

  15. My family loved the lasagne. My 9 year old (he appears to be going through a growth spurt) in particular single handedly demolished nearly half of it. A huge hit!

    1. One of the draw backs of multi cookers :/ I wonder if perhaps you could fashion a little foil or baking paper bowl to sit on top of the lasagna (but under the closed lid) to catch any of the condensation maybe? That’s one idea that I can think of? 🙂

  16. This was a huge hit with hubby and my parents. Very delish ?? and definitely going to be a regular in this household ?
I did cheat by using store bought bechamel sauce ?

  17. Can you just use jars of Bolognese
sauce and cheese sauce to save time do you still cook it 8hrs on low never made it want to try but a little unsure

  18. Made my first lasagna in the SC today. I was a little worried that it was going to be on for 2hrs longer than the recommended low setting cook time.
Got home late and it was perfect. The kids commented from the front door “Wow something smells great”. 5mins in the door and the kids are eating with no dinner time “hangries” they normally get when I’m making dinner.
Definitely be making it again in the SC.

  19. Hi, just wondering what size slow cooker people are using ? I’ve got a 3 litre and a 6 litre. Are folks using a 6 litre one?

  20. I’ve made this so many times and it always looks and tastes the same. My kids love it. I halved the recipe this time as I only had 500g of mince. Still came out perfect ?

  21. I always add bacon to this recipe. I can’t fault it! Always works out and I’ve made it so many times with never a fail.

  22. This is by far the best Lasagna I have ever cooked. It is also soo much nicer than most restaurants where I have eaten Lasagna and that says alot

  23. Such an awesome and convenient recipe. Chucked everything in raw and it cooked to perfection. Fed 5 of us.

  24. I’m new to cooking and just started slow cooking since lockdown started (too busy commuting and working before!). I feel like I’m a gourmet cook overnight especially after this lasagna turned out so well! I will be making this again in the near future!

  25. My family loves this! I have quite a small SC so I do a half amount (but more mushrooms) and the full amount of bechamel sauce. I have found the fast way – 2 hours on high and 1.5 on low, with the tea towel under the lid just for the low part makes it the perfect moist/firm consistency. I get at least 8 decent serves. Will be on weekly rotation at my place forever.

  26. Made this lasagna tonight. Everyone liked it . Only made a half serve in a small slow cooker for 6 hours on low. Put meat in raw. Will; make again.

  27. I used Turkey mince, vegan parmesan and mozzarella, almond milk and nuttelex fit gluten and dairy free alternative
Had tibuse 4 tbs gluten free flour and took about 4 mins in microwave for sauce…delicious

  28. I made this yesterday in my Crockpot, left out the mushrooms, spinach. I used corn flour instead of plain flour ( for a change) and drained some of the fat/juices before assembling. Oh yummy I just like the flavour of the mince in the sc. Yummy definitely will be making again : )

  29. This is definitely the only way to make a lasagna. Absolutely delicious and the husband went back for seconds (huge serves as well lol ?).
Paulene you are an absolute genus

  30. Well, it was okay, but the beshamel sauce was too watery and the top layer of lasagna was rubbery. Not sure what happened as I followed the recipe to the letter. I’ll try another recipe next time.

  31. Lovely recipe. Even my picky 14 y/o granddaughter ate it. Followed the recipe apart from quartering 5 mushrooms, as I am allergic to them…easier to spot this way.

  32. Great recipe. Cut it down to 500g of mince so halved other ingredients but not bechamel sauce, kept the same amount.Grated carrot and zucchini instead of spinach. Bechamel sauce was a bit runny for my liking so thickened with cheese. Next time would cut down to 500mls. Nice flavours and love that it turns out so successful in slow cooker.

  33. Amazing??
I simply made my own original sauce, i used zucchini, carrot, Capsicum, onion, mushroom, 2 garlic cloves, 800g tin of diced tomatoes, 240g of tomato paste, italian herbs and salt/pepper i slightly cooked as recommended.
Made my own cheese sauce as i call it, 1lt milk, 3/4 cup flour, 240g melted butter, a pinch of nutmeg and salt and pepper, plus i add 1/2 cup parmasen cheese and 1/2 cup of tasty cheese.

Cooked in the slower cooker on low for 6 hours and turned out amazing ?? thank you for inspiration. My kids loved it and partner.

Winner in my family!! ?? Okay so my children refuse to eat lasagna usually for some crazy reason, but hey. Lol I made this the other night and for the first time ever my children cleaned their plates and asked for more…. Lasagna ! ? ? will DEFINITELY make again. Cheers

Had never Cooked a lasagne in my life, followed this recipe to the tee other than I used minced garlic (half a jar) instead of cloves, it turned out perfect and was absolutely delicious ?!!

  36. 5 stars
Absolutely amazing recipe! I’ve done this several times though use my own bechamel sauce. It is so versatile and I add whatever veggies I have on hand at the time. Definitely won’t cook lasagna any other way.

  37. 5 stars
This was super easy to make and made a mountain of lasagna…loved the bechamel sauce re iOS though would use a little more flour next time as I prefer my sauce a little thicker. Great recipe overall
