  • Line slow cooker inner bowl with non stick baking paper and spray with non stick cooking spray
  • Turn on HIGH to preheat while you prepare the ingredients
  • Mix flour, water and salt. (no kneading required just mix)
  • Combine half of your chosen ingredients into the basic bread mix and combine.
  • Place the bread mix in the slow cooker and top with remaining ingredients (and cheese to melt on top if you wish)
  • Place a tea towel between the slow cooker bowl and the lid of the slow cooker to catch condensation and prevent your bread going soggy.
  • Cook on HIGH for approximately 90mins (machines vary)
  • *note* This recipe produces a heavy damper like bread so the more toppings you add the better to the resulting flavour

  1. I make this all the time. My children’s favourites are:
    Apple and cinnamon
    – reduce water to 1 cup
    – add 1 cup warm homemade applesauce
    – add 1/3 tablespoon baking powder
    – add cinnamon to taste

    Hot cross bun loaf
    – add 1/2 cup currants
    – add 3 tablespoons allspice
    – add 1/3 tablespoon baking powder

You can make pumpkin bread too!
    – substitute water with warm pumpkin puree
    – add 1/3 tablespoon baking powder
    – add your choice of either 1/2 cup cheese or 3 tablespoons pumpkin spice

  2. This was the perfect side to have with our spaghetti bolognese last night ? This time round I used Italian herbs, onion flakes, minced garlic & grated tasty cheese – I added some of this to the dough mix and then added the rest to the top of the loaf. Cooked on high for 1.5hrs with a tea towel under the lid ? Such a fantastically easy recipe to make, with so many yummy variations to try also ? Love this recipe, thanks for sharing it with us Paulene Christie ?

  3. Hi there made this today with Bakels bakers flour gluten free SR came out awesome I added 1 cup cheese 1 cup bacon lightly fried with 1/2 a red onion and tbsp of tomato paste then put cheese n parsley on top cooked for 1.5 hrs then 10 mins in oven to brown top it was yummy

  4. Delicious. I folded 1/2cup diced bacon and 1/2 cup grated cheese through the focaccia and the same on top. I browned top in oven with grill.

  5. Wow this recipe is so easy and so yummy . I made a gluten free Foccacia swapping only the gf SR flour and I added 2 handfuls of diced bacon, 2 handfuls of cheese and heaps of garlic powder and mixed through . On top I placed more diced bacon and cheese and a little more garlic powder . I found that after 90 mins the top needed 3 mins under the grill to brown up.
The inside felt a little soft but think it was from the amount of cheese inside. Tasted amazing hot with some butter and vegemite. Will be a regular rotation.

  6. This recipe couldn’t be easier. I just threw in what I had available – salami, Parmesan cheese and chives with a sprinkle of pepper. Cooked for closer to 1 hr 45 mins. Tastes great. Can’t wait to try a sweet version!

  7. Made this today. Just tried a piece. It is nice, but a little doughy. I think maybe I will cook a little longe next time. I cooked today for 1 hr 45 mins. Would also add more seasoning to the dough and more filling then I did. Overall nice. Will make it again
