Nan's Recipe - the very best kind!!
6 hrs 15 mins
• 8 sausages
• 1 onion
• 2 carrot
• 3 sticks celery
• 1 small apple
• 1 banana
• 1 peeled tomato
• ½ green pepper
• 1 tsp. curry powder
• 1 tsp. sugar
• Salt & pepper (can leave till served if you wish)
• 1 beef and 1 chicken (either stock cubes or teaspoons of powdered stock)
• Pinch cumin
• 1 tsp. oregano
• ½ cup long grain or similar rice
1Boil sausages until skins fall off.
2Chop into chunks, I did 6 chunks per sausage.
3Add all ingredients to slow cooker bowl.
4fill with water just to cover (I used 3 cups to start with, and added 1 more half way thru as it had fully absorbed) you may need more or less depending on how hot yours runs.
5Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours depending on your slow cooker.
6This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled depending on how much you want.
7A great way to get both fruit and veges into a main.
8My nans recipe.

This was a great way to make sausages delicious, I thickened it with gravox and tomato paste. I would include more curry as it was hard to taste it, otherwise great and my boys enjoyed it too.

Sausages are best just boiled until the skins start to fall off. It takes less than 5 minutes depending on temp and they shouldnt stick that much to the meat, maybe they were boiled too long? Not sure how this would go trying to remove skins when raw, as sausage mince may go everywhere? Let us know how you go.

Never mind. I answered my own question lol. I didn’t put the rice in with it and as I was going to be at work for the next 12 hours I put the whole 4 cups of water straight in to avoid burning. My husband said it was still quite runny when he got home around 5pm so he took the lid off for an hour, added a table spoon of gravox and worked perfectly. Very yummy recipe surprisingly. I wasn’t sure how the fruit would go but you can barely taste it and helps give it some thickness. Also helped sneak fruit into my 5 year old that doesn’t eat fruit! I wouldn’t recommended boiling the sausages first though as the skin cooks to the sausage and makes it harder to peel off. I would just put a tiny slit next time and carefully pull the skin off, chop them up raw and chuck them straight in. It is extremely mild as well, can’t even taste the curry so if you want a bit more heat/curry flavour adjust to your liking.

Hi. This looks awesome. Just checking are you meant to put the rice in the slow cooker as well or is that just to serve with it?
