Serving: 6
Cook Time 4 hours 30 minutes
Total Time 4 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500g Beef Mince (I double the mince and freeze half once cooked)
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 420g Diced Tomatoes Tinned
  • 1 onion, diced small
  • 1 celery stick, diced small
  • 1 carrot diced small
  • (I used pre packaged diced) as pictured
  • 2-3 Garlic Cloves crushed
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp low salt Soy Sauce
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Gravy Powder
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Chutney or Any Chutney or Relish you have (this is optional)
  • Grated Tasty Cheese (I used coles brand)
  • Mashed Potato and Sweet Potato (don't make it too wet)

Instructions

  • In a large pan heat the olive oil until hot. (I do this in my slow cooker as mine has a sear function) Add the onion, celery and carrot and cook until just soft 2-3mins.
  • Add the mince and cook until slightly seared 5mins .(drain off oil if there is any)
  • **you can add all ingredients straight into your slow cooker raw but I like the flavor searing gives to final dish. You will need to allow more cooking time if doing from raw**
  • Pour the mince mixture into the slow cooker.
  • In a bowl add all other ingredients (not the mash and cheese) mix well and add to mince and again mix well.
  • Cook on low for 4-5hrs stirring occasionally. (i put a tea towel under my lid) Take the lid off the slow cooker and if there is a lot of liquid on top of mince remove and throw out. Now carefully spoon the mashed potato and sweet potato neatly on top of the mince and top with the cheese and cook for 1hr or until cheese is melted. If your slow cooker bowl is oven proof then u can brown cheese in oven or under the grill. Serve with some crusty bread of your choice.
  • I recommend u remove pot from base and let stand 20-30mins b4 serving. It will hold together better 🙂

  1. Absolutely loved this dish!
I left out the chutney and sweet potato but this has definitely been my favourite so far.
The only thing I’d suggest would be to add the extra hour into the cooking time as I read as I’m making and ended up having a late tea. Other than that, I couldn’t fault it.

  2. Made this and the mince was delicious! Only 2 of us and I am on a diet so dished up for hubby and then froze the balance in those little take away aluminium containers. So have 3 meals in stock in the freezer!!!
