Braised Steak and Gherkins

A steak and gherkin casserole from my childhood converted to the slow cooker

Ingredients
 

  • 1 Onion, sliced             
  • 8 pieces Silverside Eye Steak, 1.5cm thick (or any casserole steak)
  • 1/4 cup sliced Gherkins                         
  • 1 tblspn Tomato sauce
  • 1 tblspn Brown Sugar                               
  • 1 tblspn Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tblspn Vinegar                             
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 2 tblspns Cornflour
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Place steak, onion and gherkins in slow cooker bowl
  • Combine sauces and cornflour together in a jug, pour over steak
  • Rinse jug with water and pour into slow cooker bowl
  • Cook for 8-9hrs on low (Crockpot 3.5L sc) or 5-6hrs on low (Contempo 5.5L sc)

  1. I used rump because that is what I had. Using my 7L sc decreased cooking time to 3 1/2 hours low. Went down well with kids. For my personal taste I didn’t add salt and would decrease the Worcestershire sauce next time. Overall we were very happy with this recipe
